Bolas schemes to be doing fine

When defeating one friend isn't good enough anymore - just wreck them three at a time!

The content of Archenemy: Nicol Bolas has been revealed today (officially by Wizards for a change). This preconstructed multiplayer product will be released on June 16.

It will contain three decks featuring Gideon Jura, Chandra, Pyromaster, and Nissa, Worldwaker, which are meant to be played cooperatively against the Archenemy deck, which includes Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker. The Nicol Bolas player gets to use 20 different scheme cards in addition to their deck to make life really hard for the heroes' team despite their strength in numbers. These full art scheme cards look pretty sweet, but they are obviously not legal in regular constructed.

The decks contain reprints from all kinds of past sets up to and including Amonkhet. There are no insane value reprints for Modern or Legacy hidden in the deck lists, but a lot of non-rare all stars, like Lightning Bolt, Doom Blade, Flametongue Kavu, Flickerwisp, Baleful Strix, Compulsive Research, and more, as well as lots of reprinted rares.

Here are some of the reprinted rares (besides the four planeswalkers):

Dualcaster Mage

Dragonskull Summit

Dreadbore

Drowned Catacomb

Fiendslayer Paladin

Grand Abolisher

Grim Lavamancer

Inferno Titan

Obsidian Fireheart

Odric, Master Tactician

Overseer of the Damned

Rampaging Baloths

Scute Mob

Sun Titan

Sword of the Animist

Thragtusk

Overall this looks like a well-designed product, which will end up where it was meant to end up - in the hands of players looking for a cool asymmetrical Nicol Bolas themed experience, not in the hands of investors and Modern/Legacy players who were only hunting for single card value.

Not every product has to be about turning a profit. Maybe you want to take a step back and enjoy a unique multiplayer experience with your friends instead?
