Innovation Corner: Invoked Dino

TheLastPharaoh

Welcome to Innovation Corner! In this series, we are going to explore interesting decks or combos that are fairly obscure or don't see mainstream play. The goal here is to give food for thought and break the mold. First, can the Invoked and Dinosaur themes work together in the same deck?

aleister

Recently, I was playing in remote locals and was paired up against Canadian duelist Kory Morgan. He won the die roll and opted to go first. What I never would have expected was for him to play Fossil Dig and Magical Meltdown not only in the same deck, but on the same turn too! After our duel ended, I asked him if I could feature his deck in an article and he obliged. Let's start with his list before discussing how it works.

Have You Read Miscellaneousaurus?

At first glance it seems that there is a glaring problem here. Invoked need to normal summon Aleister the Invoker and Dinosaurs are equally happy to summon Souleating Oviraptor to start their plays. Kory decided that both can hit the field in the same turn, but Miscellaneousaurus is this deck's main protagonist that ties everything together.

If you have Miscellaneousaurus along with Magical Meltdown/Aleister and any of the baby dinosaurs in your opening hand, then you have full combo. Start by pitching Miscellaneousaurus from hand via its own effect before activating its grave effect to summon Animadorned Archosaur from the deck. The latter will trigger to destroy either Babycerasaurus or Petiteranodon to add Double Evolution Pill to hand. The baby dinosaur will then trigger to special summon Oviraptor, which will trigger on summon to send Giant Rex from deck to graveyard.

For step two, activate Meltdown or just summon Aleister if you draw it instead to add Invocation to hand. From there you link it into Artemis, the Magistus Moon Maiden right after linking off Animadorned into a Linkuriboh. Both monsters can then be linked off into Predaplant Verte Anaconda. Next, use the Invocation to fusion summon an Invoked Mechaba using Artemis and Aleister from graveyard for protection, before returning your Aleister to hand via Invocation's graveyard effect.

aleister the invoker Souleating Oviraptor

From here, we continue with Double Evolution Pill, which will banish Rex and Linkuriboh from the graveyard to summon UCT from deck before Rex returns to the field via its own effect. You can proceed to use Rex and Oviraptor as materials to summon either Abyss Dweller or Evolzar Dolkka. Both can be upgraded into Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder via Drill Driver Vespenato if needed.

Lastly, Verte Anaconda will activate to get you to Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon. That is honestly quite an impressive board. Also, next turn you potentially have Aleister ready to hit the field again. The deck can easily go first or second. You can swap Mechaba for an Invoked Purgatrio to decimate your opponent's field or you can maybe drop a UCT to do the job instead or if Purgatrio is stopped. Also, if you play more conservatively, you will have more options for the following turn but your board will be watered down a little.

Brick at Times but Versatile

Your initial plays would have extra protection from PSY-Framegear Gamma since the deck would probably need to resolve some search spell cards in the beginning to get you to that ideal hand. The beauty of this deck is that you do not really need to have an perfect hand to make plays as you have two separate strategies that can either go first or second. Therefore, while you may not have the ideal opening every duel, you still will have strong plays. At least you will find a way to summon Verte Anaconda to get you to Dragoon. Interestingly, the entire Invoked engine can be sided out for certain games if need be, since it is only eight cards. This would give more room for disruptions, hand traps, et cetera.

Personally, I might experiment with running Double Summon in this deck. Normally it is considered a minus one. However, it will end up being an even trade since both Aleister and Oviraptor search on summon.

Ultimate Conductor Tyranno red-eyes dark dragoon

Is the deck relevant to the meta? Probably not so much since there is a chance for it to brick sometimes. However, it is an innovative take that combines two strategies that have no relation with one another.

Have you come up with any unconventional strategy or mixed some strategies together in a sheer unthinkable manner? Do you have something innovative that you want to share with the Yugiverse? Tell me about it in the comment section below and it might end up being featured in an upcoming edition of Innovation Corner!

Interesting - maybe add pot of prosperity to deal with bricky hands?
I'm very interested in unusual deck profiles and strategies.
Have a look at my deck below if you like.
At first sight it might look like a bunch of randomly thrown together cards but they actually work together quite well. The heart of the deck is Number 29: Mannequin cat. Get her out and then from there work with what your opponent throws at you. You can go first or second but second is better because the deck is meant to mess around with the opponent's board. It definitely can't compete with the current meta but if played right it's versatile and quite strong, but most of all extremely fun to play! It's biggest strength by far is the surprise effect - your opponent will have absolutely no clue what you're up to.
I didn't wanna add verte anaconda because I think it's just plain boring and I wanted to check out unusual ways to get out dragoon - which are not as effective but still possible. Also it's built on a moderate budget - dragoon being the only costly card in the whole deck.
I got the inspiration from the internet, too, some guy already built a deck around mannequin although using an almost totally different main deck so it's not entirely my own idea. You could really change it in a multitude of ways, just throw in your favourite archetypes and see if it'll work out, I adapted it more than a hundred times until I ended up with the current profile.
