Account Migration to Pounds Sterling Now Available

We have been collecting data and making sure Pounds sterling function properly since we introduced Pound accounts to Cardmarket one month ago. We are happy to announce that we can now move on to the next step in the process – Account migration for existing UK accounts that currently operate in euros. Account Migration is optional for all existing UK accounts and will allow users to migrate their account balance, currently listed articles, most account settings, and their customer evaluations. You can access this feature from our new Account Migration page (only eligible UK Cardmarket accounts can visit this page).

How Does It Work?

The first step is to make sure you are eligible for Migration. To be eligible, your “euro” account must:

  1. Have a U.K. Address.
  2. Not be blocked or frozen.
  3. Have at least one purchase or sale.

If those things are all true, you are eligible for Account Migration. The process for account migration is mostly automatic and will create a “new” account on Cardmarket which will mirror your old account. Once the migration is complete, your old account will still be accessible but will have very limited functionality. Your old account will be unable to buy, sell, create API apps, change your address, or perform many other actions on the website. The following details will automatically be transferred when you migrate accounts:

  • Username
  • First + Last Name
  • Password
  • Phone Number (if provided)
  • Company Name (if provided)
  • VAT number
  • Your current account status (Can you sell? Can you pre-sell? ect…)
  • Birth Date
  • Evaluations
  • Your seller type, trust level, and commission.

What About My Current Account Balance?

This requires more input on your end, as we need to convert your balance from Euros to Pounds to transfer it. To this end, we created a tool that will allow users to migrate their balance from their old account to the new account. This tool will be made available to you when the initial migration process is finished. While this process is simple and straightforward, there a few rules users should be aware of:

  1. You can only transfer from your old account to your new account. Once you have transferred the balance, it cannot be transferred back.
  2. When you transfer between accounts, an exchange commission is deducted, rounded down. This commission is identical to the exchange commission assessed on cross-currency purchases on the website.
  3. You will have to confirm the amount credited to your new account before the transfer occurs.

What About the Articles I Have Listed?

As this also requires converting the Euro prices to Pound sterling prices, we have made a tool for this as well. This tool will also be made available to you after the initial migration process is finished. The Article Transfer tool allows you to transfer all your currently listed articles to your new Pound sterling account. Before the transfer, you will be able to choose whether you want the new prices to be rounded. Like currency transfer, this process is irreversible. Finally, you will receive an email confirming the successful migration of your account, articles, and balance.

Lastly, your private messages and old sales and shipment details (your evaluations still carry over though) will, unfortunately, not be available on your new account. We will continue to monitor our Pound sterling accounts moving forward to ensure that the feature is working well, and we look forward to seeing our UK marketplace develop with this new update.
