Talents Are Introduced to Flesh and Blood

Monarch adds new depth and nuance to the game with the addition of the Light and Shadow talents. Heroes can now harness their talents giving them access to cards and mechanics from their region. In Monarch’s case; Light, a talent reflective of the Solana region and Shadow, of the Demonastery. Through talents, fans can relate more to heroes’ backstories, identities, motivations, and agendas.

Monarch features new keywords, mechanics, and card types such as

Spectra, a new keyword that exists on Illusionist Aura cards. When a player is deciding who to target for an attack, they may elect to target an Aura with the keyword spectra. Phantasm, a new keyword that exists on Illusionist attacks. Illusionist attacks with phantasm are powerful but fragile. Charge is a new keyword that exists on Light Warrior attacks which showcases Boltyn’s eagerness to engage in battle and charge his soul in the process. Blood Debt is a new keyword existing on Shadow cards that can inflict a loss of life to access a greater power. At the end of your turn, you lose one health for each blood debt card in your banished zone. Spellvoid, a new keyword primarily on equipment or items, is a one-time use effect that prevents arcane damage.

Two new card types are also introduced in Monarch. Instant - Aura is a new combination that exists on Light Illusionist cards. They can be played at any time you have priority and when played they stay in the arena until they are destroyed. Monarch introduces the new card type Ally in the form of demons from the Demonastery.
