#CMWhatTheTrend - Hogaak & Leyline of the Void

FinanceBy JaminK (2019-07-31)

Hello and welcome to WhatTheTrend, the column where we'll examine current trends on Cardmarket, check out why certain cards are popular, and speculate on future price developments. This week, we're examining the biggest threat in Modern and the most common answer to it.

The Future of Dark Confidant and Modern Jund

EntertainmentBy HansD (2019-07-25)

Midrange decks are built with the metagame in mind and are thus highly customizable. Regardless, even the most customizable of these decks still play core cards that are integral to the deck’s gameplan. Very rarely, in a non-rotating format such as Modern, does a new card come along that displaces the current best-in-slot card for a midrange deck. With the printing of Wrenn and Six in Modern Horizons, I believe that Dark Confidant has found himself as the odd man out after years of being a Jund mainstay.

From the Vault: Kaalia

ConstructedBy RJGiel (2019-07-16)

Kaalia of the Vast might be one of the most iconic Commanders ever printed. Every long-time Commander player has either played a Kaalia deck or died playing against it. M20 had many surprises for commander players old and new alike, one of them was a callback to the infamous Human Cleric.

FinanceBy JaminK (2019-06-27)

Taking a Second Look at Modern Jund

ConstructedBy HansD (2019-06-25)

Modern has changed in the five years I’ve been playing and following it, and some decks that used to be on top of the dogpile have found themselves kicked off their perch. As Modern has become more powerful, aggressive, and linear, many of the fair, interactive decks that reigned supreme have gone the way of the dinosaur. Jund is one of these decks that has been pushed out more and more by the changes in the metagame, but Modern Horizons has brought along a good number of new toys that warrant giving this battered archetype a second chance.

Bridgevine's Missing Piece

ConstructedBy Andifeated (2019-06-13)

It was obvious that Modern Horizons would introduce some cards to the Modern metagame to help fringe strategies push their way into the meta. Nobody expected the monster that Wizards would unleash with Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis. Read about Bridgevine's rise from fringe status to potentially format defining.

Let's start our adoration by paying tribute to the serene Oketra and the sibylline Kefnet.

#TwitterBuildsModern Episode Two: The Drudge of Dredge!

EntertainmentBy JohnnyCroat (2019-03-29)

Graveyard decks come in many shapes and sizes. There's Living End, which is usually brought back out for a spin every time some new cool ETB effects get printed. UB Storm is in effect a graveyard deck, relying on Past in Flames in order to be able to recycle a big heap of cheap cantrips so as to generate massive card advantage and storm count. There's Dredge itself, happy to dump as many cards into the bin as possible, and then cheating several itty bitty bothersome monsters into play, which have a tendency to come back turn after turn after turn. So then, how does this relate to Maze's End? Read on!

The Golden Rules of Modern - Part One

ConstructedBy HansD (2018-08-14)

Modern is a great format to theory-craft in, with an ever-evolving metagames and a deep card pool to feed discussions and theories about the format. This also means that what was once true in Modern no longer apply – a good example of this is, "Don't tap out against Twin on turn three" – but there are also long-standing rules that every Modern player should be aware of if he or she wants to play well. The first three of these "Golden Rules of Modern" might be ones you know already, but they also might be ones you haven't thought about yet.
