Extremely underestimated and strong card. Not just in modern where it allows you to produce infinite mana on turn 2 with Freed from Reality, but also in Standard. Just one Leyline + Llanowar Elf is enough to cast a Frilled Mystic on Turn 2.
2 Leylines and you can cast Nissa on Turn 2 and her animated lands will produce four mana!

The Year of the Banhammer

ConstructedBy Rone (2019-12-20)

2019 will be remembered for many things: insanely powerful cards, Arena Mythic Championships, the creation of Pioneer. However, one thing stands out among the others: a total of nine banning announcements featuring changes, more than in the two previous years combined. Let's review the Year of the Banhammer.

Pioneer at Cardmarket Series Prague

Event CoverageBy TobiH (2019-12-06)

Pioneer wasn't one of the big headliners in Prague, and the event's turnout wasn't big either. The format also experienced another round of bannings since. Nevertheless, the results call into question some previous assumptions. In particular, control fared much better than expected.

Lots of Laughter with Legacy Leylines

ConstructedBy JohnnyCroat (2019-10-23)

One of the most important factors with any format and any strategy is enjoyability. If you don't like the deck you're playing, then what's the point? You need to have fun— and there's nothing quite so much fun as dumping your hand onto the table on turn zero!

Rotation Grief: Dominaria (Part 2)

ConstructedBy Kumagoro (2019-10-02)

The Standard Rotation is upon us. The coming meta will be shaped, in part, by what we lose. We've reached the end of this journey of grief (or jubilation, depending on who you ask) as we look into the red, green, multicolored, and colorless cards we'll have to remove from our Standard decks as Dominaria rotates out.

Spicy Decks from Mythic Championship IV

ConstructedBy Rone (2019-08-30)

Modern is a new format after the recent banning and unbanning. People are looking to brew tons of new decks, but Rone decided instead to look back at Mythic Championship IV Barcelona. Sure, the decks were tuned for Hogaak, but maybe there were some gems that you could adapt in the new Modern.

Rotation Grief: M19 (Part 2)

ConstructedBy Kumagoro (2019-08-01)

With the release of Throne of Eldraine on October 4, the dreaded/craved yearly rotation will kick in, turning the current Standard pool from its eight-set peak to its five-set nadir. Meanwhile, we're having a look at the cards that we'll miss the most (or not), starting from those contained in the core set that bears this year's name.
