War of the Spark Modern Review - My Top Picks

ConstructedBy Rone (2019-05-13)

Nicol Bolas has returned to end all our beloved Gatewatch heroes! It doesn't matter who wins this war though, since we Modern players still get a lot of new planeswalkers to try out. In this article, let me try to evaluate every War of the Spark card that might be Modern material.

10 Legacy Playable Cards in War of the Spark

SpoilersBy CabalTherapy (2019-04-30)

The final showdown between Bolas and the Gatewatch has begun and with the War of the Spark, Legacy gets some new toys. Cabaltherapy's got the breakdown on which cards might make a splash in the storied format.

Humans in the Current Modern Metagame

ConstructedBy JaminK (2019-04-09)

In a Modern metagame defined by Faithless Looting and Ensnaring Bridge, a deck that disrupts the opponent while applying pressure might be the key to victory. We'll go through a current decklist, discuss interesting slots in the deck to beat the meta and walk through the two most important matchups.

#TwitterBuildsModern Episode Two: The Drudge of Dredge!

EntertainmentBy JohnnyCroat (2019-03-29)

Graveyard decks come in many shapes and sizes. There's Living End, which is usually brought back out for a spin every time some new cool ETB effects get printed. UB Storm is in effect a graveyard deck, relying on Past in Flames in order to be able to recycle a big heap of cheap cantrips so as to generate massive card advantage and storm count. There's Dredge itself, happy to dump as many cards into the bin as possible, and then cheating several itty bitty bothersome monsters into play, which have a tendency to come back turn after turn after turn. So then, how does this relate to Maze's End? Read on!

Inner Workings: Dredge

ConstructedBy Kumagoro (2019-03-27)

In each installment of the Inner Workings series, we'll examine a different Modern archetype to find out what makes it tick. This time, it's the turn of the most successful combo deck in the current meta, a unique strategy that the DCI bans have tried to keep in check since the very beginning of the format.

Dangerous Propositions: Dark Depths

ConstructedBy Kumagoro (2019-02-19)

The Modern ban list is a maximum security prison with (KCI update!) 34 inmates, some of which could potentially pose a serious threat to the meta. In this ongoing series, we're reviewing each of those offenders to see if they're eligible for parole. This time it's the turn of the evil queen of the tokens.

A Thorough Look into Ultimate Masters - Part 3

SpoilersBy Kumagoro (2018-12-14)

Ultimate Masters is going to be the last event release celebrating 25 years of Magic in 2018, and possibly the final set in the Masters series. We're looking at all these reprints to see what they bring to the UMA experience and the secondary market; now it's time to end the exploration with green and colorless.

A Thorough Look into Ultimate Masters - Part 2

SpoilersBy Kumagoro (2018-12-05)

Ultimate Masters is going to be the last event release celebrating 25 years of Magic in 2018, and possibly the final set in the Masters series. Let's see what all these reprints bring to the UMA experience and the secondary market; this time is the turn of black and red.

Why You Should Play Baleful Strix in Legacy Part 2

ConstructedBy ChristopherB (2018-12-04)

We've seen the card and it's strenghts, now Christopher looks at the card's weaknesses and the current Legacy metagame, right down to how it performs in the individual matchups that you're likely to encounter.

Dangerous Propositions: Punishing Fire

ConstructedBy Kumagoro (2018-11-14)

The Modern ban list is a maximum-security prison with 33 inmates, some of which pose a potentially serious threat to the meta. But now that Big Jace is free, anything can happen. Let's review each of the offenders to see if they're eligible for parole. This time, we talk of the burn spell that won't stay away.

My Guilds of Ravnica Picks for Modern

ConstructedBy Rone (2018-10-10)

We are right at the start of Guilds of Ravnica. Everyone is brewing new Standard decks while prices are going up and down. In this article, Rone tries to predict which cards are Modern material. Let's jump into it.

Keywords in Guilds of Ravnica

SpoilersBy ChristianS (2018-09-06)

Christian is excited for a second return to Ravnica and he's here to break down the mechanics, talk about them in the context of both constructed and limited Magic, and builds a little hype for our 3rd trip to the City of Guilds.

Exploiting Delve: BUG Delve(-r) in Legacy

ConstructedBy CabalTherapy (2018-05-14)

In this outing, I look at a mechanic that has seen two of it rank banned or restricted in nearly every major format: Delve. I look at an aggressive application of Delve in Legacy's strongest three-color combination and how it presents a unique take on Tempo in a format dominated by blue tempo decks.

Choose Their Poison: The Collective Brutality Story

ConstructedBy Kumagoro (2018-04-11)

Modal spells - everyone's favorite way to pack a bigger bang for your buck while dealing with the inherent available slot restrictions in 60-card decks. The best of such cards were frequently chase rares in the past and Collective Brutality is no exception; let’s choose to see why.

5 Dragons You Might Meet on the Battlefield

ConstructedBy Kumagoro (2018-03-23)

Dracarys! Despite their typical casting cost being midrange and beyond, Dragons always find a way to show up in decks of all kinds. Their current situation across the formats is not too shabby, and not just in red-based builds. Here’s a selection of the flying terrors all the cool kids are playing.

One More Thing! A Second Look at Legacy Miracles

ConstructedBy Alakazimdk (2018-03-13)

I ran the Mentor build in the MTGO Legacy Challenge this week and I feel that is a good opportunity to showcase a slightly different way to build Miracles than we saw last time. I'll go through the list and then my rounds.

Urza's Legacy

FinanceBy DrHoeh (2015-04-14)

Artifacts are always a great choice, because they can potentially appear in very different decks, which means that they are more resilient to metagame shifts than cards with heavy colour commitments.
