Spicy Decks from Mythic Championship IV

ConstructedBy Rone (2019-08-30)

Modern is a new format after the recent banning and unbanning. People are looking to brew tons of new decks, but Rone decided instead to look back at Mythic Championship IV Barcelona. Sure, the decks were tuned for Hogaak, but maybe there were some gems that you could adapt in the new Modern.

Legacy Treasures 2: 4c Waterfalls

ConstructedBy CabalTherapy (2019-08-12)

CabalTherapy is back tapping into some of the less known, but still great decks in Legacy. This time it's the "real" cascade deck: 4c Waterfalls. It's great and it's time it gets its time in the sunshine. Joing him as he gives you a snapshot of this oldie but goodie.

The Future of Dark Confidant and Modern Jund

EntertainmentBy HansD (2019-07-25)

Midrange decks are built with the metagame in mind and are thus highly customizable. Regardless, even the most customizable of these decks still play core cards that are integral to the deck’s gameplan. Very rarely, in a non-rotating format such as Modern, does a new card come along that displaces the current best-in-slot card for a midrange deck. With the printing of Wrenn and Six in Modern Horizons, I believe that Dark Confidant has found himself as the odd man out after years of being a Jund mainstay.

#TwitterBuildsModern Episode One: Prison Break!

ConstructedBy JohnnyCroat (2019-03-01)

When building a deck with a clear win-condition in mind, it's important to look at the ways that this can be achieved. When that win-condition will take far more turns than is usual in the format, then we need to look at ways to give us that time! Let's build a pillow fort with Maze's End!

Tribal Attractions: Hydras

ConstructedBy Kumagoro (2018-08-01)

With its strict, four-faction setting, Ixalan has been a very tribal block, and then Dominaria doubled down with some tribal focus of its own. Time for Kumagoro to have fun with Modern-legal concoctions for some less obvious tribes. In this installment: everyone's favorite polycephalous monstrosities.

Beating Your Opponents Down with Green-Black Elves

ConstructedBy HansD (2018-07-31)

During a conversation last week, my friend Stefan asked me if I would be interested in playing in a large Modern tournament the following week. He has a large collection of Modern staples, which he offered to lend if there was a deck I wanted to play in particular. He had decided on playing Grixis Shadow for the tournament, and I picked up Black-Green Elves. Here's the deck list for my 75.

Rogue Deck Review 2: Summer Notables

ConstructedBy HansD (2018-07-18)

Welcome to the second installment of Rogue Deck Review! Today we're taking a look at five rogue decks that are worth sharing, whether it's because of quirkiness, metagame viability, or accessibility. Without further ado, let's jump right in to our first list!

Dangerous Propositions: Green Sun's Zenith

ConstructedBy Kumagoro (2018-06-14)

The Modern ban list is a maximum security prison with 33 inmates, some of which pose a potentially serious threat to the meta. But now that Big Jace is free, anything can happen. Let's review each of those offenders to see if they're eligible for parole. This time we talk of green's best delivery service.

GP Hartford is in the books and there's a lot to take in. In this week's article, I discuss what happened in Hartford, why it happened, and what I expect to see from Modern moving forward!

Choose Their Poison: The Collective Brutality Story

ConstructedBy Kumagoro (2018-04-11)

Modal spells - everyone's favorite way to pack a bigger bang for your buck while dealing with the inherent available slot restrictions in 60-card decks. The best of such cards were frequently chase rares in the past and Collective Brutality is no exception; let’s choose to see why.

What the Four Best Decks from GP Phoenix Say about Modern

Caught in Agony Part 2: On Losing with ANT

ConstructedBy CabalTherapy (2018-03-26)

There are plenty of deck techs on the internet which provide valuable insight. Yet, there is much more to a deck than card choice and lines of play. So, join me on this multi-part story of dedication, challenge, and friendship as we explore my experiences with one of Magic's most iconic decks: Legacy ANT.

There and Back Again: The Bloodbraid Elf Story

ConstructedBy Kumagoro (2018-03-01)

If not exactly the Queen of Jund (that’s of course Liliana), Bloodbraid Elf was certainly its High Priestess back in the times. Now that she’s been unleashed on the Modern format once again, is she going to find a home in a drastically changed meta, or will she go the way of Bitterblossom?
