All His Spells in One Book - Signature Spellbook: Jace

The spiritual successor to the From the Vault series, Signature Spellbook: Jace is a collection of nine cards, including one foil. Of the nine total cards, the eight non-foil cards will always be Jace Beleren, Blue Elemental Blast, Brainstorm, Counterspell, Gifts Ungiven, Mystical Tutor, Negate, and Threads of Disloyalty. The remaining foil card will be one of the above eight cards, making them interesting chase cards for those looking for a sweet new foil.

All these cards have unique Jace-themed card frames, custom-designed for the new Signature Spellbook. All artworks will also have Jace "casting" the spell. This means there is a whole host of new artwork here, at least for the cards that didn't already have Jace-related art. Each Signature Spellbook has a manufacturer standard retail price (MSRP) of $ 19.99 (est. 17,32 €).

Chase Cards and Brand-New Artwork

This may be a spiritual successor to the From the Vault series, but Wizards of the Coast is no longer focused on highlighting the history of Magic cards with it. They are focusing on the characters and the cards revolving around those characters instead. In Jace's case, this means nice reprints of classic blue spells like Counterspell, Gifts Ungiven, Brainstorm, and Mystical Tutor. However, the draw here lies mostly in the new look and card frame, and less in the value of each individual card – something that has often resulted in ridiculous price spikes during the short-printed From the Vault sets.

Each card depicts Jace in some capacity, with Counterspell using the classic Jace vs. Chandra art. Gifts Ungiven depicts two Jaces attempting to barter with someone. Basically, if you like Jace, this is the set for you because it will allow you to pimp out your blue spells with their Jace-themed versions.

A New Card Frame and a Step Away from Foils

The biggest and most distinct change from the older From the Vault sets comes from the fact that Signature Spellbook cards are not foil. Every card in the From the Vault series was a unique foil, making the set a must-have, especially for people looking to collect foils of older cards that didn't get one when they were first printed. Instead, only one foil will be available in each pack, making the packs worth multiple purchases for those chasing an exclusive foil. Wizards hopes this will stop collectors from hoarding Signature Spellbooks, as most of the value will be in the rarer foil cards not guaranteed in every pack. Either way, this is the new paradigm for reprint-heavy expansions, so we'll just have to wait and see whose spell book we get a peek at next.

Janusfcb - Never take prices so serious months before release :) you should know that!
It have always been like that. Preorder cost a lot! And sometimes.. Rarely! It can cost more at the release..

"MSPR $20", well then. We are close I suppose. Is it just insanely expensive to run stores in Europe?
