No one expected him to be back so soon, and yet Teferi shows up in Innistrad: Midnight Hunt to slow things down once again. This time around, he comes in the shape of a four-mana planeswalker, Teferi, Who Slows the Sunset (4feri for short). His +1 ability is a surprisingly curious design, allowing us to tap or untap creatures, lands, and artifacts. Does that sound like slowing down? Well, when we effectively untap two lands per turn—because Treasure Vault is an artifact—it's more likely to speed things up, quite considerably.
What other artifacts can we untap? Mysterious Tome // Chilling Chronicle works as a card draw engine transforming into an Icy Manipulator that will be ready for the opponent's turn thanks to Teferi. The planeswalker's plus ability also synergizes pretty well with Pyre of Heroes. This way we can sacrifice twice as many creatures per turn, ideally of course those with disturb.
The plan is simple: Cast some cheap Humans like Lunarch Veteran // Luminous Phantom and Devoted Grafkeeper // Departed Soulkeeper to be sacrificed to the Pyre. Later bring back their Spirit forms, paying a disturb cost that's reduced by Patrician Geist, which also pumps your team once they turn into Spirits.
With Teferi in play, one of those creatures also gains pseudo-vigilance. Alternatively, his minus ability digs deeper into the deck for missing key pieces. The same is true for Faithful Mending, which also stocks the graveyard. Looking at the Spirit payoffs, Vega, the Watcher draws extra cards off disturbed creatures or flashback spells, while Dennick, Pious Apprentice // Dennick, Pious Apparition investigates when Pyre of Heroes sacrifices creatures. Finally you can tutor up Overwhelmed Archivist // Archive Haunt for some looting action.
All in all, this is how the deck looks, and to be honest, I cannot wait to try this beauty out in paper. Let's make Teferi great again in Standard!
