Day one of BfZ Standard

What is hot on day one of the new Standard?

We are just starting into day two of the SCG Open, but there is already significant movement for some cards.

I mentioned Atarka's Command yesterday, and indeed the aggressive decks have been quite successful, as they usually are in week one. Brian Demars was leading the pack after day one with a new version of R/g Aggro.

But the bigger news may be that the field is indeed filled with 4- and 5-colour decks, like I predicted. The best players have realized that they can just play all the best cards by using various variations of the 5 basic lands, 5 battle lands 15 fetchlands manabase. Gerry Thompson has taken the lead in the tournament with his 5-colour version at the moment. We will see this kind of deck in a lot of variations before players will settle on any specific list (if they ever will), as it has the largest amount of potential cards available to it. So far the biggest allure to that deck seems to be Bring to Light, allowing for a little tool box and the ability to virtually run 8 Siege Rhinos.

With the early removal diminished in the new format and with better mana available for everyone, Jace, Vryn's Prodigy / Jace, Telepath Unbound has become even better. Flashing back Bring to Light with Jace offers an amount of flexibility and power that can turn difficult games into a picnic for you.

Jace, Vryn's Prodigy / Jace, Telepath Unbound has done the impossible and gained another 15 € (!!!) over night and it does not seem to be stopping there. Opening more Magic Origins product has just become a much better idea.
