Pioneer Deck of the Week: Niv, Omnath, Light

Every Wednesday Insight is taking a quick look at one of the top-performing, most peculiar, or simply sweetest Pioneer decks among recent results. Green Devotion made up more than 30% of the Top 16 at Sunday's big Showcase Challenge. But a more colorful alternative managed to hold its own!

After the bannings of Expressive Iteration and Winota, Joiner of Forces, Pioneer was looking for a new king. So the Showcase Challenge came at just the right time to showcase various challengers. It cemented the first-tier status of Green Devotion, but it also offered some spicier news. Two very similar Five-Color Niv to Light builds finished in eighth and tenth place.

Apparently here's a deck that really benefited from the addition of Jetmir's Garden, Raffine's Tower, Spara's Headquarters, Xander's Lounge, and Ziatora's Proving Ground. It's running all five! In addition to three different Triomes!

There's not much else that is new. The deck lost Expressive Iteration too, but there's no lack of value-generating spells. Value-generating threats are out in full force too, and holding everything together is Bring to Light. This spell can bring any of the deck's spells to light, and that includes back sides where they exist. Casting Tibalt for five mana this way has been a frequent occurence for a while now.

tibalt, cosmic impostor deadly vanity

The same works with Deadly Vanity. Killing everything except for your Sylvan Caryatid, and doing so as early as turn four, is a neat catch-up mechanism. With nine tapped lands you're bound to need it.
