Pro Tour Amonkhet Day 2

A first look at the unfolding action at the Pro Tour.

Pro Tour Amonkhet is well on its way, but there aren't any huge surprises yet. Mardu Vehicles and Aetherworks Marvel decks were leading the field at 26% each with Zombies following unexpectedly close behind at 21%. Earlier, I wrote that I don't expect Zombies to win the Pro Tour due to being a quite single-minded strategy. While this is true for the mono-black version, one fifth of those Zombie lists in attendance are splashing white, which makes them much more flexible, apparently enough to adjust to and keep up with the rest of the format, at least Chris Fennell seems to be unstoppable with that deck.

Marvel decks are back in full force now that the even better turn 4 combo was removed from the format. The only question is which “high drops” you want to use in your Marvel deck besides the obvious Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger. This question might not be decided before the end of the Pro Tour, but there are multiple candidates so far. It makes sense to have strong 5- or 6-drops in your deck which you can easily hard-cast, but which are still great hits off a turn 4 Marvel. Some of these are still really cheap at the moment, so picking them up now could save you a lot of money if you are looking to play Marvel in the near future:

Chandra, Flamecaller From(EX+): 2,49 €

“Forgotten Chandra” seems to be one of the top choices, but there are other cool choices like

Demon of Dark Schemes From(EX+): 0,20 €

The Demon is super cheap right now, and as a mythic rare could offer a really great pay-out, if it becomes a staple in that archetype. Other good options include

Noxious Gearhulk From(EX+): 1,75 €

Ishkanah, Grafwidow From(EX+): 2,20 €

Liliana, Death's Majesty From(EX+): 9,30 €

Stay tuned for further updates as the action unfolds at Pro Tour Amonkhet.
