It's not every year that we get to celebrate Pokémon turning 25 years old and the TCG is making sure to go all out with the brand-new Celebrations expansion. The main set will consist of 25 cards and will feature plenty of your favorite Legendary and Mythical Pokémon from each generation all in one set. There are Legendary Birds, beasts of the Moon and Sun, titans of Time and Space, and everything between! As well as this, there is a brand new Psychic Type Zacian V, a Fighting Type Zamazenta V, and the iconic Surfing and Flying Pikachu in both V and VMAX forms.
Finally, just to round off this fantastic set, there is a Full Art Professor's Research featuring the original Pokémon Professor, Professor Oak, as well as a secret rare shiny golden Mew with an excellent Ability "Wonder Tail" which allows you to look at the top six cards of your deck once per turn if Mew is in the Active Spot. It also gives you the option to choose an Item card you find there to add to your hand. This could be a great card for both collectors and players alike!
That's not all, as there is an additional group of cards that you'll want to collect when cracking open Celebrations booster packs. This subset features a whole heap of iconic Pokémon cards that have made their mark during the game's long competitive lifetime. Cards such as Luxray GL Lv.X and Garchomp C Lv.X from the infamous LuxChomp deck of the Generation 4 era, the Fairy type Xerneas-EX, M Rayquaza-EX, Umbreon Star, Claydol lv. 45, and Tapu Lele-GX. All of these cards represented firsts in the game or were dominant in their respective formats. Finally, Base Set Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise also make an appearance for base set fans still interested in the TCG. That Charizard costs a pretty penny though!
Finally, there are some fantastic promo cards in Celebrations-themed products that combine newer Pokémon with classic mechanics. Look out for cards like Light Toxtricity, Dragapult Prime, Delta Mimikyu, Zacian Lv.X, and Greninja Star. It's great to see old Pokémon printed in the retro style of older cards, something that people had only dreamed of before the announcement of Celebrations.
The Celebrations set releases through a variety of products beginning on the 8th of October. This isn't like a normal set, you won't be able to get booster backs as with normal TCG releases, these will only be available in specific Celebrations TCG products, so make sure to look out for these on shelves beginning in October and enjoy the celebration of 25 years of Pokémon!
