Blasting the Dark and Samurai Chieftains

In the Cardfight!! Vanguard lore, Phantom Blaster Dragon was defeated and his soul split in two parts, one evil and one good. The good side of PBD's soul became one of the most beloved leaders in Planet Cray and V Booster 06 finally introduces him to Standard as Illusionary Revenger, Mordred Phantom.

When Mordred Phantom is in the Vanguard circle and a Blaster Dark enters the Rear-Guard circle, the player gets a Force Imaginary Gift. When Mordred attacks, by paying [Counter Blast (1)], all Blaster Darks [Stand] and get +10000 [Power] until end of turn. Furthermore, with help from Masquerade knights Nulify Revenger Masquerade and Transient Revenger, Masquerade, the Shadow Paladin player can tutor Blaster Darks or even get them from the drop zone. The plan is simple, yet effective – get as many Blaster Darks as possible, buff them, and swing for victory.

In the Murakumo clan, Samurai Chieftain, HYU-GA provides a more control and combo focus to the clan, since he can tutor combo pieces and even boardwipe a full field with just one ability. By paying [Counter Blast (1)], the player gets to search for a unit with the same grade as one of the oposing units. The Chieftain also changes the name of all cards on the field to the name of the tutored unit. This allow combos with other cards, such as Covert Demonic Dragon, Hyakki Vogue "Яeverse" – a card which gives [Power] to each unit with its name. Lastly, HYU-GA's second ability returns all opposing units with the same card name to their deck, giving Murakumo the control effects they need.

Get a Ticket, Luquier Is Back

In the realm of the Dark Irregulars, the demon king is Brufas. Demonic Deep Phantasm Emperor, Brufas is the king's card and, similar to HIU-GA, Brufus searches his deck for three cards with the same name, puts two on the soul and one in the hand, giving the clan a solid advantage engine and soul fodder. Brufas also has an offensive ability, since he gets to retire one of the oposite units then gains the [Power] and [Critical] of the retired card. Brufas is the jack-of-all-trades that Dark Irregulars needs.

Finally, the main attraction of Pale Moon is here! Silver Thorn is an old sub-clan that is finally returning to the Standard format. Like all Pale Moon cards, Silver Thorn Dragon Tamer, Luquier, the star of Silver Thorn, uses the soul to her advantage. By discarding a card and paying [Counter Blast (2)], Luquier calls as many cards with "Silver Thorn" in their name from the soul to the battlefield as she wants. Plus, all front-row Rear-Guards gain +3000 [Power] until end of turn. She also gains +10000 [Power] if at least two cards were called during her turn. Luquier has always been a fan favorite, so she is definitely one of the key attractions in Phantasmal Steed Restoration.

With Summer 2019 almost over, a Dark booster set was in order and Bushiroad nailed it. V Booster 06: Phantasmal Steed Restoration provides a change of pace in the current metagame to shake the format that pretty much all Vanguard players are focused on solving: Standard.
