On 14 December 2018, the third Extra Booster of the Cardfight!! Vanguard V Series, also known as V Extra Booster 03: ULTRARARE MIRACLE COLLECTION, hits the Standard metaplay. With this set, we get to experience the return of three clans well known by the player base: Angel Feather, Neo Nectar, and Gold Paladin. This booster includes 66 cards (3 VR, 6 RRR, 9 RR, 15 R, and 33 C) plus 12 Parallel cards (3 SCR, 3 SVR, 3 URR, and 3 OR). It also introduces a new card-type never-before seen in Vanguard, the Token. More precisely, a Plant Token.
We have got to begin with the return of one of the most beloved clans in the Vanguard world, the Gold Paladin. In the anime series, this clan was created by the union of two sworn enemies, Royal Paladin and Shadow Paladin. By wielding the power of light in one hand and the power of darkness in the other, the Gold Paladin swore to defend the United Sanctuary. Their leader is Incandescent Lion, Blond Ezel and his effect certainly is as hot as his name. His first ability activates in the hand: The player can Superior Ride Ezel by [Soul Blast (1) Crimson Lion Cub, Kyrph] and by controlling Knight of Superior Skills, Beaumains and Knight of Elegant Skills, Gareth at the same time. Furthermore, Ezel can Superior Call a card from the hand to (RC) when he attacks. Having a grade 3 unit one turn sooner than usual can definitely change the pace of the game and lead the Gold Paladin to victory. This is surely a tribute to the old Ezel Ride Chain and all active (or inactive) Gold Paladin players should feel very nostalgic with this one.
The nurse team of Planet Cray is also back! Angel Feather is themed around angels and uses healing magic to aid the injured. In the battlefield, they are led by Solidify Celestial, Zerachiel and just like Ezel, players can Superior Ride her, but this time directly from the damage zone! Her only condition is the opponent's Vanguard must be grade 3 (or greater). She also gives her front row units additional 3000 [Power] if a new card was put in the damage zone during the Angel Feather player's turn. This skill works very well with other units that can manipulate the damage zone, like Underlay Celestial, Hesediel.
Finally, V Extra Booster 03 finishes with Neo Nectar, the garden clan of Planet Cray. This clan revolves around plants, fruits, and other 100% biodegradable beings. Their playstyle involves sacrificing one unit to search for other units on the top of the deck, changing the board state to something more favourable to the Neo Nectar player. The military side of this peaceful group are the Musketeers with White Lily Musketeer, Cecilia as their captain. By paying [Counter Blast (1)] and retiring one rear-guard, the player controlling Cecilia can look at the top five cards from his deck and can call up to two cards to (RC). Also, if at least one grade 3 unit is in her soul, she can call up to three cards instead of two and her front row units get +10000 [Power]. And what better fodder than Plant Tokens? A Plant Token is a grade 0 / 5000 [Power] / 1 [Critical] unit with Boost. They can be generated from other cards, such as Pansy Musketeer, Sylvia, enabling Cecilia to maximize her ability. Winter is coming but apparently, these flowers bloom all year long.
V Extra Booster 03: ULTRARARE MIRACLE COLLECTION introduces a new card rarity, the UltraRare Rare (URR). URR cards are signed by the voice actresses of Suiko Tatsunagi (Aimi Terakawa), Kourin Tatsunagi (Suzuko Mimori), and Rekka Tatsunagi (Yoshino Nanjou), members of the pop idol group Team Ultra-Rare in the anime series. They are known not only for their catchy tunes, but also for their cardfighting skills.
There are a lot of reasons why players should be excited for this latest Cardfight!! Vanguard expansion. With shiny knights, medical staff, flowers, and signed cards, who wouldn't be?
