The classic Yu-Gi-Oh! theme of Light versus Dark continues in the next all-foil set: Shadows in Valhalla. The fan favorite Valkyrie monsters, used by Zigfried von Schroeder in the classic Yu-Gi-Oh! anime, descend from Valhalla and is finally making their debut into the Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game. While all seems well in Valhalla, new Ninja cards are lurking in the shadows, ready to strike! The set will contain 60 cards, 20 Secret Rares, and 40 Super Rares, varying from brand-new cards to much needed reprints.
The Valkyrie archetype goes way back to the original Yu-Gi-Oh! Anime. Zigfried follows up his younger brother, Leon von Schroeder, whose Fairy Tale cards were released in Battles of Legend: Relentless Revenge. Starting off with the new Ride of the Valkyries, this card allows you to summon up to 5 Valkyries from your hand. Additionally, you can banish it from your GY afterwards to add Mischief of the Time Goddess from your deck to your hand. This is definitely a powerful card that grants you a second battle phase, making sure your Valkyries will overpower your opponent, sending them off to Valhalla. At the moment, not all of their effects have been revealed, but definitely keep an eye out for this powerful new deck!
One of the other main attractions of Shadows in Valhalla are the Ninja cards. The YGO Ninjas are known for their impressive shapeshifting abilities, using Ninjitsu Art cards to change themselves into Winged-Beasts, Dinosaurs, and even Dragons! In this particular set, the Ninjas have mastered a new technique: Ninjitsu Art of Mirage Transformation. Instead of transforming into a monster from your deck, you tribute one of your Ninjas to revive a monster in your opponent’s graveyard to your side of the field.
Another Ninja Grandmaster appears in the form of a Link Monster: Ninja Grandmaster Saizo. Once per turn, Saizo let’s you set a Ninjitsu Art Spell or Trap directly from your deck. Plus, he protects all the monsters his Link Arrows point to from being attacked or targeted by effects.
The 2015 and 2017 Mega-Tins gave us a first look at the Entity cards with Elder Entity Norden being the most popular one. However, the remainder of these cards have remained exclusive to the OCG for years... until now! Unlock the Forbidden Trapezohedron and unleash the powerful Azathot. An Xyz Monster, this card upon being summoned, locks your opponent out from using any of their monster effects.
Additionally, the Invoked cards will make a comeback in this set. Some popular cards like Invocation and Invoked Mechaba will be reprinted alongside a brand new Link Monster for the archetype, Aleister the Invoker of Madness. This is a Link 2 monster who becomes Aleister the Invoker while on the field or GY. Furthermore, this card let’s you search your deck for an Invocation whenever a monster is Fusion Summoned.
Which side will you be on when Shadows in Valhalla releases on August 16?
