The stage is set for the duel of the ages! In one corner: Yami Yugi, the king of games! In the other corner: Maximillion Pegasus, the creator of Duel Monsters!
Speed Duel Starter Decks: Match of the Millennium lets you relive the iconic final match of Duelist Kingdom while also introducing a load of brand new cards to the Speed Dueling format. Each Match of the Millennium Starter Deck contains two 31-card decks, 2 foil cards, and 4 Skill cards (two for Yugi and two for Pegasus) with an MSRP of $ 9.99 (9,21 €).
One of the cards that Match of the Millennium is introducing to Speed Dueling is the fearsome Thousand-Eyes Restrict in Pegasus’ deck. Restrict dominated the competitive scene of Yu-Gi-Oh! many years ago. Thousand-Eyes Restrict is a fusion of Relinquished and Thousand-Eyes Idol, allowing you to both absorb an opponent’s monster and make every other monster on the field unable to attack. The question however is how viable this card will be in the Speed Duel format, since there is no way to easily bring out this monster unlike in the regular format. Maybe the new Skill card Thousand-Eyes Spell included in this set can provide some aid in achieving this?
This set also introduces many new Toon monsters to Speed Dueling, including Toon Dark Magician! This cartoonified Dark Magician lets you discard a card to either Special Summon any Toon from your deck (ignoring summoning conditions) or add 1 Toon Spell/Trap from your deck to your hand. Together with Toon Table of Contents, Toon Mermaid, and the previously released Skill card It’s a Toon World, Toons might prove to be a fast and strong strategy for the format.
The other character in Match of the Millennium is Yugi, who focuses on Ritual and Fusion Summoning powerful monsters with the help of Spell cards like Advanced Ritual Art and Summoner’s Art. Sphere Kuriboh, one of the staple cards of the format, also makes another appearance after its first reprint in Speed Duel: Trials of the Kingdom. This little fiend is able to change an opponent’s attacking monster to defense position by discarding it from the hand. Additionally, it can substitute itself for a Ritual Summon Tribute by banishing itself from the grave, which will definitely aid in summoning the mighty Black Luster Soldier.
Yugi’s deck also includes other amazing reprints like Senju of the Thousand Hands, helping you get BLS from your deck to your hand and Magician of Faith, retrieving previously used spells like Polymerization or Advanced Ritual Art. The Sonic Bird included in Pegasus’ deck might actually do its job better in Yugi’s deck, as it’s able to search the previously mentioned ART from your deck for immediate use.
Besides these new cards to power up your Speed Duel decks, Speed Duel Starter Decks: Match of the Millennium also include some peculiar Normal monsters that might not make their way into your decks, but collectors might actually be happy to see! For over 20 years, these monsters remained exclusive to Japan, but both Match of the Millennium and Twisted Nightmares are finaly releasing oddities like Shadow Specter, That Which Feeds on Life, and Neck Hunter to overseas territories!
Be ready to power up your deck with cards from Speed Duel Starter Decks: Match of the Millennium releasing on 14 May 2020.
