Releasing alongside Speed Duel Starter Decks: Match of the Millennium is Twisted Nightmares, featuring cards to bring out your darkest side during an uncertified duel on top of a blimp! Yami Bakura and Yami Marik stand front and center in this brand new Speed Duel release. Each Twisted Nightmares Starter Deck contains two 30-card decks, two foil cards, and four Skill cards (two for Bakura and two for Marik) with an MSRP of $ 9.99 (9,21€).
Yami Bakura is known for his nightmarish creatures and his Speed Duel deck isn’t any different. His ace monster Dark Necrofear makes its debut into Speed Dueling as a Level 8 fiend summoned by banishing three fiend-types from your grave and functioning as an equip version of Change of Heart when destroyed as a Monster card. However, banishing three fiends from grave is quite the heavy cost, and that is why Twisted Nightmares includes low level fiends to bait some attacks and give you benefits afterwards.
First off is a reprint of Mask of Darkness, a Flip monster that retrieves a Trap from your grave. Another fiend included in this set is the Mad Reloader which, after being destroyed by battle, let’s you send two cards from your hand to the GY to then draw two new ones! These can definitely set up the summon of your Dark Necrofear.
Twisted Nightmare contains a lot of amazing support for Speed Dueling decks in general. Providing non-targeting removal with both Lava Golem and Santa Claws, you are able to Tribute any of your opponent’s monsters to summon them to their field. With decking out being a very common win-condition in Speed Duels, Santa Claws’ draw effect might even prove to be a vital piece to your victory instead of being useful to your opponent. However, you want to get to your combo pieces fast, so drawing cards keeps being an important strategy!
Twisted Nightmares also delivers cards like Allure of Darkness and Veil of Darkness with Allure being new to the Speed Duel format. Veteran Yu-Gi-Oh! players are already familiar with Allure of Darkness: a powerful Normal spell that lets you draw two cards, but afterwards you need to banish a DARK monster from your hand. This can barely be called a cost as the advantage that drawing two cards gives you is immense!
Besides these new cards to power up your Speed Duel decks, Speed Duel Starter Decks: Twisted Nightmares also include some peculiar Normal monsters that might not make their way into your decks but some collectors might actually be happy to see! For over 20 years these monsters remained exclusive to Japan, but both Match of the Millennium and Twisted Nightmares finally bring oddities like The Shadow Who Controls the Dark, Brave Scizzar and Shadow Specter to overseas territories!
Keep an eye out for Speed Duel Starter Decks: Twisted Nightmares releasing on 14 May 2020 and be ready to add some darkness to your decks!
