The Advanced Basics in Starter Deck: Codebreaker

On 13 July 2018 the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG will see the light with brand new Link Monsters and their supporting cast. Coming straight out of the VRAINS series, this Starter Deck will boost Cyberse monsters and the Link mechanic with brand new support cards. Starter Deck: Codebreaker is perfect for new players learning the Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game and its Summon mechanics. However, it is also relevant to the overall metagame because it brings new and powerful card combos to the format.

Link Away!

Finally arriving in Europe is the little Link-1 star of this Starter Deck: Linkuriboh. The effects of this small but powerful Link Monster are simple: When your opponent attacks, you can Tribute Linkuriboh to nullify your opponent’s attack points. You can also Special Summon him from the grave with a Level 1 monster Tribute, making combos really easy.

Linkuriboh is not the only Link Monster that stands out in this deck. Codebreaker also brings in a brand new "Code Talker" Link Monster – the powerful Transcode Talker! This card revives one of your Link-3 (or lower) Cyberse monsters from your graveyard for free. However, you can only activate this effect if you don’t Special Summon other monster types during this term. Transcode Talker also gives himself and monsters co-linked to 500 ATK and they cannot be targeted by your opponent!

You can easily summon Transcode Talker with new Cyberse monsters, Widget Kid and Cyberse White Hat. Widget Kid (Level 3, Cyberse) is easy to understand: When he is Normal or Special Summoned, he can, once per turn, summon 1one Cyberse monster from your hand to the field. This easily helps you build up your field with powerful Link Monsters. Cyberse White Hat (Level 6, Cyberse) summons himself from tyour hand when you control 2 (or more) monsters with the same Type. When you Link Summon him to the graveyard, your opponent's monsters lose 1000 ATK. After that, you can easily run over your opponent's monsters with Transcode Talker!

Breaking the Code

This new Starter Deck features plenty of cards, both old and new. We see reprints like the well-known Link Monsters, Decode Talker and Link Spider. Two basic, yet powerful and impactful Link Monsters who have seen play in tournaments since their release. This Starter Deck also reprints fan-favorite cards, like Monster Reborn, recently released from the banlist. You can also expect cards like Torrential Tribute, Dark Hole, Call of the Haunted, Mirror Force, and so much more.

Starter Deck: Codebreaker comes with 45 cards and has a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $ 9.99 (8,58 €). This set boosts Link Summonings and the new Cyberse archetype, bringing duelists one step closer to the power the OCG currently has.
