Set Information

The release of the Pendulum Domination Structure Decks was originally scheduled for July 2016, but Konami changed plans and instead released the Rise of the True Dragons Structure Deck first. Next, it was time for brand new Structure Decks for Yugi Muto and Seto Kaiba Structure Decks, which led to the Pendulum Domination Structure Deck being postponed all the way to January 2017.

Fans of the “D/D” archetype that the anime antagonist Declan Akaba relied upon will finally be able to rejoice as the Structure Deck features plenty of cards that will turn it into a viable contender.

Dark Contract Signings

The “D/D” archetype is often dependent on the “Dark Contract” Spell Cards that nullify the negative side effects of the “D/D” monsters. While you do take some damage during your Standby Phase, this is often a better trade than losing a lot of cards to perform a Summon of one of the boss monsters.

Another specialty of the archetype is the re-use of cards that ended up in your graveyard, Extra Deck or Pendulum Zone. A good example of a card that makes great use of “D/D” monsters in your graveyard is “D/D/D Wisdom King Chaos Apocalypse”, one of the new releases in the Pendulum Domination Structure Deck. You can Special Summon it from your Pendulum Zone by banishing 2 “D/D” monsters in your graveyard. This marks one of the quickest and easiest ways to add a 2700 ATK strong beatstick to your side of the field where it can wreak havoc on your opponent.

At the moment, what this archetype is missing the most is consistency, but that is one of the weaknesses that the Structure Deck is addressing. D/D Savant Copernicus, another new addition from the Structure Deck, allows you to send a “D/D” or “Dark Contract” card from your deck to the graveyard once per turn so you can then recycle it for one of the other effects. This might be the missing puzzle piece that makes the deck a viable choice.
